Nostalgic Scents: Connecting with Our Memories Through Our Sense of Smell In-Person
Do you ever catch a faint breeze with a hint of freshly-mown grass and all of a sudden you are a young kid pushing that heavy lawnmower in unending rows across the yard on a hot day to earn your allowance? Our brains are hard-wired to link our sense of smell with our memories. Come learn about how we connect scents with our memories and why, after years, we can still suddenly vividly recall an earlier experience after just a brief hint of the right certain smell.
About the presenter: Melinda Wallington grew up immersed in this concept of emotions evoked by scent, with her father working as a chemist creating fragrances for lots of big-name companies over the course of his 30-year career. After about 10 years in the University of Rochester's Rare Books and Special Collections Department, Melinda now expounds upon a variety of historical topics any chance she gets.
