Rain Barrels and Rain Gardens Workshop In-Person

Come and learn how to protect local water quality by learning about rain gardens and building a rain barrel for your home!

Homeowners can disconnect the downspouts on their house and direct the rainwater from their roof to a rain garden where the water soaks into the ground and waters the plants. You will also make and take home your own

55 gallon rain barrel that collects and stores rainwater from your home’s roof. Conserve tap water by using the rainwater from your rain barrel on your gardens and landscaping. Residents of the Shipbuilders Creek Watershed are especially encouraged to attend.  New York State has identified water quality in Shipbuilders Creek as polluted and several grant supported programs are underway to address these problems.  Residents of the Watershed who attend the workshop will be eligible for a special bonus to help protect water quality at home.   Not sure if you live in Shipbuilders Watershed?  Go to the “Your Watershed” tab on www.H2OHero.org, click on “Find your local watershed”, and enter your address in the search function.

All tools and materials will be supplied at the workshop. Workshop fee is $40.00/rain barrel. Pre-registration with the Rochester Museum & Science Center is required. Workshops will be held at the Webster Public Library, large meeting room, from 6-7 pm.
